The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Advisor provides support and expertise to our North American (NA) workforce, including to staff, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve our shared goal of a Zero Harm workplace. The HSE Advisor will work closely with relevant NA and global HSE stakeholders to ensure alignment of all business activity with the EDL values, company goals, objectives and HSE standards. This role provides specific HSE support to the RNG operations group, and EDL project teams.


Responsibilities

  • Provide HSE and training support services across multi-site operations.
  • Support operations and other internal business teams, demonstrating visible leadership, specialist knowledge, and coaching and mentoring supervisors and managers to ensure appropriate HSE standards are met.
  • Complete HSE inspections, audits, hazard hunts, safety observations and other HSE activities as required to provide assurance that HSE systems and related procedures are implemented.
  • Support implementation of company hazard identification and risk assessment processes (including facilitation). Driving a culture of risk-based HSE system assurance.
  • Promote timely and accurate reporting of all HSE events (including incidents and hazards) in line with the EDL HSE event classification and reporting procedure. Assist in the identification, recording, tracking and implementation of remedial actions.
  • Develop and maintain effective consultation arrangements with internal/external stakeholders (including Operators, Supervisors and Managers) to identify effective responses to assure the safe operation of the NA business.
  • Support NA implementation of corporate HSE programs, including use of Enablon, Blackline Lone Worker System, ChemAlert.
  • Lead or participate in HSE Incident Investigations as appointed by the NA HSE Director and in line with company procedures.
  • Develop and deliver HSE management system training and assessment materials to members of the NA business (site based and office personnel).
  • Provide input into group HSE Team performance activities, including annual strategy and planning activities, metrics and KPI reviews.
  • Facilitate/participate in HSE related meetings, operations meetings and (where relevant) monitor HSE action items to ensure they are formally tracked with appropriate closed out.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and monitoring support to supervisors and managers with respect to corporate business unit HSE KPIs (i.e. related to Top 5 HSE KPIs and other HSE BU KPIs).
  • Development and collation of leading and lagging HSE and training data for the compilation of monthly and other HSE related reports.
  • Support the development of the company’s Emergency Response (ER) capability through ER exercise support planning and reporting.
  • Any other duties assigned by the NA HSE Director appropriate to the level and responsibility of the position.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills both oral and written, with the ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and able to proactively undertake routine and non-routine tasks with professionalism and minimal supervision, demonstrating effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Proven team player and the ability to respond to and deliver change and contribute to a continuous improvement culture in a complex multi-site organisation.
  • Strong prioritisation skills, with an ability to identify and re-prioritise tasks to meet business needs.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to write effective reports.
  • The ability to collate and analyse HSE data and form opinions on suggested actions.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake regular interstate travel, approximately 20% of the time.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a multi-site, national operation in a safety/HSE role (experience with high-risk activities in construction or energy/utilities/operations areas preferred).
  • Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or working towards.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred.
  • Intermediate ability with MS Office – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and delivering HSE training.
  • Strong understanding of current OSHA legislation, standards, codes and industry best practice.
  • Experience leading incident investigations using ICAM or a similar investigation methodology.
  • Demonstrated experience in HSE compliance management and monitoring and qualified as a lead Safety or HSE Auditor (preferred).
  • Demonstrated understanding of core HSE processes, including Permit to Work, Lock Out Tag Out, Incident Investigation, Contractor HSE Management, Emergency Response, Risk Management and Training and Competency.
  • Current and clean Drivers Licence (essential).
  • Holds, or ability to obtain a Police Clearance.
