Job Description:

The Improvement Advisor - Senior is an advanced Lean and Continuous Improvement practitioner with proven experience and success leading and coaching large complex enterprise-wide strategic initiatives across all healthcare business and clinical areas. The Senior Improvement Advisor is an essential Continuous Performance Improvement team member, leading and adhering to the principles, framework, systems, behaviors, mindset, and tools anchored in Lean methodology and Improvement Science. The Senior Improvement Advisor leads Continuous Performance Improvement events, education, and training to achieve clinical and business performance targets across John Muir Health. They partner and coach leaders and medical staff to evaluate enterprise-wide, department-level, and clinic/nursing unit-level systems, processes, and services to continuously improve the performance of operations, clinical care, and business services delivered to patients, families, and the community. The Senior Improvement Advisor supports and leads critical continuous improvement events and initiatives, including the development and deployment of A3-Thinking Problem Solving, study/adjust cycles, Leader Standard Work, and visual management with aligned, linked, and cascaded targets to elevate performance from the C-Suite to frontline teams that supports execution of tactics and escalation of barriers. The Senior Improvement Advisor may mentor Improvement Advisors and high-performing individuals in Lean initiatives and support the development of the Continuous Performance Improvement curriculum and John Muir Health leader certification courses.

Critical success factors will include defining success metrics, facilitating communications, providing guidance, coaching, project direction, and leadership to ensure successful outcomes for Continuous Performance Improvement engagements to achieve clinical and business performance targets. The Senior Improvement Advisor reports to the Director of Continuous Performance Improvement.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (Healthcare, Business, Industrial Engineer, Quality Management, etc.) in a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university - Preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in seeking facts through Lean methodology and Improvement Science to continuously experiment to systematically learn and improve operations to achieve desired clinical and business results.
  • Demonstrated success in developing educational pathways, curriculum, and courses anchored in the Shingo Model, adhering to the principles, systems, behaviors, mindset, and tools in Lean methodology and Improvement Science to develop leaders and best practices to achieve clinical and business performance targets

Experience

  • Demonstrated work experience in Lean methodology and Improvement Science, collaborating and coaching senior leaders and physicians to achieve organizational performance targets.
  • Eight years’ experience facilitating, teaching, and leading Lean events, such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizens, 5s, 3Ps, Process Mapping, Process at a Glance, X-Matrix, A3-Thinking Problem Solving, IHI's Model of Improvement and Whole System Quality, Donabedian model for quality of care and balancing measures, Leader Standard Work, True North, Coaching for Improvement Questions (Toyota KATA), deploying a Lean Management System, and teaching Lean Leader certification curriculum (technical and adaptive skills) across an organization.
  • Successful experience facilitating and leading complex projects and teams and driving decision-making to create a demonstrated return on investment for Continuous Performance Improvement projects.

  • Advanced understanding of Lean principals, behaviors (cultural), systems, mindset, and tools to achieve performance results. Able to act as a thought leader and operational expert in Lean management system methods and tools, focusing on Coaching for Improvement Questions and Visual Management at the unit/clinic level to enhance frontline/team-based problem-solving.
  • Ability to analyze various components of structure and processes, such as schedules and flows, to understand all methods and activities involved in reducing or eliminating unnecessary process variation, creating enhanced value.
  • Able to establish management control systems for improving quality and cost.
  • Discovering new ways to improve the efficiency of structures and processes in service delivery

  • Exemplary project management skills and behaviors with the ability to ensure that critical milestones and deliverables are achieved and barriers are escalated before the deadlines to ensure the successful execution of the projects.
  • Outstanding training and presentation skills with exemplary communication capabilities and practices. Able to present to C-Suite through the Frontline team to ensure the presentation matches their roles, daily work, and performance goals.
  • High-level assessment and evaluation skills that focus on eliminating non-value-added activities, thus creating value for patients, team members, medical staff, and John Muir Health.
  • High-level strategic thinking, conceptual, and analytical skills translated into operational behaviors that change the form or function of structures and processes to create value.
  • Adaptable and flexible with an ability to learn rapidly and pivot, when necessary, in response to a dynamic environment.

Work Shift:

Exempt Days (Mon-Fri) (United States of America)

Pay Range:

$68.70 - $103.05

Hourly

Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.

Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
