Industrial Automation Manager

Job Description Job Description *This position requires heavy traveling up to 75% at the beginning. Only candidates in the following regions will be considered: Austell, GA, Hanover Park, IL, and Dallas, TX. SUMMARY: Industrial Automation Project Manager is responsible for coordinating the details and planning for all Depot Operations automation projects including inspection automation, recycling, and material handling installations as well as supporting facility openings or relocations with permitting and compliance to all business regulations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the installation and integration of automated equipment, either directly or in conjunction with business partners, in facilities. Be key point of contact before installation, on-site during installation, and post implementation support. Manage multiple project plans for multiple projects concurrently in a detailed and organized manner. Serve as subject matter expert for Depot equipment (automation, recycling, material handling equipment). Coordinate with senior leadership to achieve project timelines, budget and operational targets, providing status updates and recommendations for improvement. Understand system requirements for utilities such as electrical, plumbing, internet, air etc. on all equipment to be installed. Identify and work with vendor and authorities to ensure that all power needs are met in a timely manner. Design building and equipment layouts to achieve optimal efficiencies and flow of materials. Make recommendations to ideal location in building for all new systems. Coordinate all needed permitting for equipment and utilities, including technical drawings and technical descriptions. Frequent travel to support all automation launches until equipment can be “handed off” to local management. Train local management and associates on equipment, including daily use and maintenance needs. Position requires frequent travel and candidate must live nearby Chicago IL, Atlanta GA or Dallas TX to be near a depot when not traveling. Remote work is allowed when travel is not required. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Indirectly supervises 1-2 employees that are responsible for equipment maintenance and uptime in facilities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience with duties. Minimum 2 years’ experience managing projects, preferably with automated material handling projects. Ability to communicate technically in terms of electrical and mechanical specifications. Ability to use modeling software/ CAD a plus. Ability to travel to support launches of new automation projects. Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions, both within and outside of the organization. Excellent planning and organizational skills Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus. Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
