Instructional Designer (Part-time Contractor)

Position Summary

The Instructional Designer will partner with Harmony Academy staff (content and instructional designers) to support a series of high-priority projects, including creating content and building modules and courses for the proposed Teacher, Leader, and School Certificates in D2L Brightspace for both asynchronous learning.

This is a part-time contractor position.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with Content team leaders and Technology team to finalize key features and a structure for the format of modules and courses.
  • Use knowledge of specific audiences for modules and courses to recommend appropriate language and voice.
  • Offer suggestions for content items as it relates to presentation in a multimedia format.
  • Make note of any errors on the Harmony online portal content.
  • Attend content check-ins to ensure consistency and adhere to tight timelines for delivery.
  • Participate in project management meetings as needed.
  • Translate content into learning activities and assignments, using adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
  • Create learning activities and assignments that are engaging and useful for users.
  • Ensure that assessments and assignments are aligned with the appropriate rigor based on the course numbers that they are aligned to within National University.
  • Partner with the Content team to ensure course design aligns with the Academy’s goals and mission.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, instructional design, or related field required, master’s degree preferred
  • Three (3) years’ relevant instructional design experience.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in adult learning, preferably within educational publishing; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Analytical and strong organizational skills, with excellent verbal and written ability. Preference given to candidates with a background in copyediting or training or experience in technical writing.
  • Thrives in collaborative and team environment, but also works well independently or with limited oversight.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and has flexibility to adapt to changing business needs.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and follow-up.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with attention to time constraints for deadlines.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge and understanding of the academic environment within PK-12 education contexts for teachers and leaders (preferred).
    • Content knowledge of social and emotional learning
    • Project Management experience
    • Experience in educational publishing

    • Working knowledge, principles and practices of office management/systems within a higher education environment, preferred. Demonstrates an understanding of underlying organizational issues.
    • Familiarity with theoretical and practical project management best practices and tool.
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and follow-up.
    • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with attention to time constraints for deadlines.
    • Familiarity with web design best practices, or basic HTML experience, or other technical skills that demonstrate strong quality control ability and eye for detail.

    Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency.
