Salary Range:

$55,000.00 - $65,000.00

Job Summary:

The Internal Auditor is responsible for performing internal audit assignments of University departments and activities under the supervision of the Chief Internal Auditor. The Internal Auditor reviews and analyzes transactions, documents, records, reports, and accounts relating to University operations and functions and prepares acceptable working papers and audit reports of findings. Special reviews and projects may be assigned by the Chief Internal Auditor.

This position is not eligible for relocation reimbursement.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting audits and reviews including assessing risks; evaluating internal control design and effectiveness; executing audit programs, work plans, and performing fieldwork, testing and data analysis.
  • Prepare work papers and reports consistent with audit plan procedures with a high level of technical accuracy, grammatical accuracy and structure, in adherence to Office of Internal Audit procedures and applicable and professional auditing standards.
  • Provide updates to the Chief Internal Auditor on status of assigned work including immediate communication of any issues or challenges.
  • Assist in assessing the impact of internal control deficiencies and developing correction action recommendations.
  • Effectively meet agreed-upon audit and review completion timelines, while also participating in other organizational initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for reducing costs, improving processes, and enhancing the University’s image in the community.
  • Ensure that the internal audit quality assurance requirements as promulgated by the Office of Internal Audit and the Institution of Internal Auditors are followed, practiced, and support any independent external assessments.
  • Assist in the preparation of a biennial risk assessment.
  • Participate in investigations as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in auditing or accounting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by Jacksonville State University.
  • Experience with Ellucian/Banner software.
  • Higher education auditing and/or governmental auditing experience.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
