Job Description

The Commerce Team within the NBC New Group uses data to make critical business decisions, find new readers to connect with, determine new categories to test or existing content to expand on, and communicate with leadership on pacing, top stories, top products, etc. We are looking for an Insights Associate to help strategically grow the e-commerce business through data-based insights and analysis on Today.com/shop, NBCNews.com/select and CNBC.com.select. In this position you will work closely with the Commerce Analytics Manager, as well as the business, editorial and broadcast teams to identify areas that can help enhance the current affiliate efforts and find new opportunities to expand the team’s reach.

The ideal candidate should have experience analyzing and creating actionable insights from various sources of data. We’re looking for an “Investigative Analyst”, who can find what happened, why it happened and how we can use that information moving forward. They should have a good grasp of trends in the industry.

Job Description:

  • Pull, analyze, and present findings on e-commerce performance in weekly, bi-weekly and monthly meetings with editorial and executive teams
  • Keep the executive, business development and editorial teams updated on pacing to ensure yearly goals are achieved
  • Assist editors in content planning through insights from past performance – most notably for preparation on major shopping holidays
  • Regular data analysis to search for coding and API ingest errors to ensure our reporting and performance is as accurate as possible
  • Ad hoc reporting on various projects to keep the team aware of what is working and to identify new testing ideas/opportunities
  • Work with social, SEO and audience development teams to identify new ways to reach potential readers based on actionable insights
  • Help identify industry trends and areas of opportunity for each website individually

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in ecommerce strategy, sales analysis, digital marketing or analytics
  • Experience working in spreadsheet tools (ie. Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets) and data visualization required
  • Experience working with an ecommerce publisher a plus
  • Experience in affiliate marketing a plus

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of data analysis and ability to think creatively about cause and effect
  • Strong attention to detail – especially in relation to spreadsheets
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of affiliate marketing platforms a plus
  • An inquiring mind that is able to find both the problem and the solution
