Responsibilities


  • Position requires working on multiple projects/studies at any given time.
  • Assist senior engineers in developing subsurface investigation programs for new and existing facilities, technically directing the work in the field, assigning laboratory tests, and developing geotechnical parameters based on investigation results
  • Assist the senior engineers in developing geotechnical engineering designs, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates for flood walls, levees, bank protection, and pumping stations projects.
  • Assist the senior engineers in performing complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Assist the senior engineers to conduct slope stability, soil analysis and other geotechnical engineering studies.
  • Responsibilities include performing geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities.
  • Responsibilities also include assisting the senior engineers in preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and presenting the results of the investigations and reports to members of the project team.
  • Work will also involve communication on geotechnical issues with the project team during the engineering design stage of the project.
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Supervise a small staff of field technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Qualifications


  • Master’s in civil engineering with Geotechnical Specialization
  • 0-2 years design experience
  • Willing and able to travel to and remain at jobsites on short- and long-term assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with team in preparation of reports, memos, calculations, and other technical documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, MicroStation or other software as appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation for drafting geotechnical drawings is a plus.
  • Reasonable related to site and subsurface investigations, foundation design and analysis, and earthwork and slope stability is expected.
  • Knowledge of seismic-related issues and evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils is expected.
  • Academic knowledge of computer applications such as Plaxis 2D and 3D, FLAC, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, CAPWAP, gINT, Settle3D, and DYNA6. Professional application knowledge is a plus.
  • EIT is a plus.
  • Field Experience is a plus.
  • Passing Professional Engineer (PE) license exam is a plus but not required. Should be Eligible to Obtain PE license in next 3 to 4 years.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) applications such as ArcGIS is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of USACE Manuals is a plus.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our team focused culture is a must.
