Job Description

Summary: The Lead Purchasing Specialist will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and contracting for parts and services throughout BlueScope Recycling and Materials. This position will require regular interaction with external suppliers and multiple departments throughout the company, including Purchasing, Maintenance, Operations, and Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, negotiate, and execute sourcing strategies that reduce expenses.
• Focus on continuous improvement by bringing innovative ideas and new technologies to the organization.
• Plan and mitigate Supply chain risks; analyze and assess market industry trends and conditions that affect pricing, availability, lead time, and quality.
• Work with project managers to ensure purchasing processes are followed during all project phases.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and review their performance.
• Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate requirements into contract terms and project specifications.
• Work with the Legal Department to draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements.
• Lead a team of Purchasing Clerks and manage their development.
• Assist with the vendor onboarding process as needed.
• Flexibility to take on new tasks as they arise.
  
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• 5 years of purchasing/buying experience or a bachelor’s degree in business or other relative field of study
• 2+ years supervisory experience
• Experience with contract and supplier management
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Problem solving and research skills
• Detail-oriented, Able to prioritize tasks, and Strong organizational skills
• Time management skills and ability to multitask
• This position may require up to 20% travel to other BlueScope Recycling locations. Overnight stays are generally not required but may be needed occasionally.
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior scrap recycling experience
• Purchasing/buying experience in a manufacturing environment
• Purchasing/buying experience with contract services supporting a business
