Who We Are:

Opened in November of 2023, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum (ACCM) is a 48,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility, located in downtown Palm Springs, California, and includes a permanent 10,000 square foot gallery on the history, culture, and present times of the Agua Caliente peoples, a 2,200 square foot changing gallery, dedicated collections storage areas, a 1,000 square-foot dedicated retail space, education classroom, meetings rooms and an outdoor education garden. ACCM is owned and operated by The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a federally recognized Indian Tribe.

Position Summary

Manager of Events is the point-person in outreach, planning and executing event sales to achieve revenue goals for the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum. Part of the Museum’s Mid-Management Team, s/he will lead efforts in maximizing sales through outreach and overseeing special events, in-house events, and programs of an exceptional standard and quality on behalf of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The Manager of Events, in concert with other ACCM and ACBCI staff, will liaise with guests, venue clients, vendors and other Tribal departments, meeting and exceeding expectations and providing top-grade service while complying with the standards and practices that safeguard the Museum and the Cultural Plaza and its facilities according to established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Work with Senior Museum Administrators, Mid-Management Team, and Staff to set a vision and goals for Museum events and venue rentals
  • Represent the Museum through outreach and engagement within the events and networking community, in order to promote the Museum’s event rental business
  • Manage and execute rental sales events; assist with the planning and execution of Tribal special events; and assist with the planning and execution of Museum programs, as required.
  • Available to show/sell Museum rental space in a courteous and professional manner in accordance with Museum policies
  • With Head of Operations and Manager of Administration, draft and execute rental contracts for venue rentals and help negotiate and manage contracts with clients and event-related vendors, based upon Museum and Tribal policies.
  • Implements and enhances Events Dept. policies and procedures within ACCM
  • Train and supervise an Events Coordinator
  • Work with the broader Tribal marketing circumstances in developing and executing successful marketing plans to drive venue sales and program attendance
  • With Head of Operations and Manager of Administration, develop and manage departmental budget

Qualifications

Required and Desired Skills

  • Experience with collaborative/team project development process
  • Experience developing and managing successful events of multiple sizes and formats, delivered with outstanding customer service
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a diverse range of groups, organizations, and communities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise departmental staff
  • Strong ability to be creative and think critically
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; and ability to work in team environment
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas with a wide range of peoples and communities
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts and working within tight deadlines
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and project management software
  • Able to relate effectively with people of various cultural backgrounds, levels of education, and diverse experiences

Working Conditions

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The job regularly requires the employee to sit for long periods of time, stand and walk for extended periods during events. Work mostly indoors but sometimes outside under desert condition as well as walk, climb or balance, crouch, and stoop. The position may require the climbing of multiple staircases. The position occasionally requires the ability to bend and the lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds.
