Summary:

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will play a key role in helping to develop and evaluate new processes (including automation) and improve current process capability, efficiency, and overall productivity in all areas of manufacturing on new and existing products for the facility. You will also help lead key facility-wide initiatives to maximize efficiency by analyzing the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and workforce utilization using Lean Manufacturing concepts and other continuous improvement methods. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will also play a key role in helping to improve overall safety, quality, delivery, and cost for the entire site’s operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leverage process and product knowledge to lead the evaluation, development, and implementation of new and/or enhanced manufacturing processes, systems, and fixtures to leverage opportunities for automation and improved process controls.
  • Led efforts to improve manufacturing line processes related to the design and redesign of assembly fixturing, poka yoke assembly jigs, and assembly conveyance devices to support improved flow, ergonomics, and quality while increasing efficiencies.
  • Leverage formal Lean and other process improvement methods to solve manufacturing issues and problems.
  • Create flow, conduct workflow analysis, balance workload between assemblers and maintain constant flow of the finished units paced at customer demand rates.
  • Team to implement standard work for each assembly cell, defining clear precedence of tasks with visual indicators to manage a mixed model production environment supporting safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Support Safety with the development of ideas to prevent or eliminate the possibility of safety issues.
  • Support Quality with the development of root cause analysis to prevent or eliminate quality issues on the workstations.
  • Support Engineering with the implementation of new products and engineering changes.
  • Provide AutoCAD expertise to support all aspects of facility layouts and changes to manufacturing, warehouse, facilities, safety, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and solve manufacturing issues.
  • Design and improve assembly line layout, cell design, parts presentation and eliminate wastes in manufacturing from the entire assembly process.
  • Collaborate with the Controls Engineer to design and implement error proofing and text fixtures.
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering with a focus on manufacturing process improvement and automation or a related field.
  • Experience or direct involvement with automation implementation from concept to implementation.
  • Experience with manufacturing fixture and work cell design from concept to implementation.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience.
  • Project Management and Lean Manufacturing Certifications preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook),
  • Experience levering AutoCAD and SolidWorks to support manufacturing process enhancements.
  • Must have problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Familiar with manufacturing equipment and safety procedures.
  • Must have excellent communication skills because of daily contact with internal employees.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test and a reference check.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to stand, walk, grasp, type, have eye/hand/foot coordination, occasionally sit, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, kneel, and reach.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position works in a typical office, manufacturing, and lab environment.
  • Clarity of vision including the ability to appropriately differentiate colors.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
