News Producer

WWL Louisiana, the CBS affiliate in New Orleans, is seeking a curious, creative and ambitious News Producer who wants to create an energetic newscast and digital content that informs, inspires and empowers our audience.

The ideal candidate will share innovative ideas for daily content, while maintaining close attention to detail. This producer must be able to write urgently, concisely and execute the goals under tight deadlines. Our Producers must be able to skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.

The ideal producer is a solution seeker, who loves journalism. They work well with a team but are also independent and self-motivated. They have a knack for finding unique, interesting content while always keep the audience at the forefront.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong news judgement and understand the basics of journalism
  • Create unique shows, segments, and digital stories that are engaging, emotional and innovative
  • Write, edit, and showcase stories for broadcast and digital in a creative and engaging way
  • Use social listening to research, discover and distribute content
  • Research facts and sources’ credibility
  • Pitch enterprise story ideas
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories
  • React to breaking news and manage the newscast’s timing
  • Lead and inspire a team to work together.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, communications or other related degree is preferred.
  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts, and digital content
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Strong awareness of current events, especially at the local and regional level
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Knowledge of ENPS and Edius is a plus
