Oil Lab Analyst

Overview

Quinn Company, your local Caterpillar store, is hiring a Oil Lab Analyst in Fresno, California.

The Oil Lab Analyst will be responsible for performing all laboratory functions concerning oil, coolant and diesel fuel testing. Provides assistance in the administrative functions of the laboratory. Ensures a top quality, efficient and safe operating laboratory in accordance to local, state and Caterpillar established guidelines.

Wages

Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $18.20 - $19.50

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities of an Oil Lab Analyst include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Conducts daily oil, coolant and diesel fuel analysis in accordance to established Caterpillar and ASTM committee guidelines. Provides quality customer support in all aspects of preventative maintenance
• Proficient in the operation of all S·O·S Fluids Analysis Lab equipment, including plasma spectrometers, viscometer, particle counter, infrared instruments, gas chromatography, microscopy, CCCP flashpoint, Karl Fisher Titrator, and bacterial growth slides.
• Ensures that all calibration of testing instrumentation is current and that appropriate documentation of calibration and quality control tests are ready and available for internal and external audits and meets Caterpillar and international guidelines.
• Ensures that significant departures from quality control and calibration guidelines are recognized, documented and corrected as needed.
• Conducts administrative functions of the S·O·S Lab to ensure there are no delays in providing quality customer service. Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment and facilities. Provides support in trouble-shooting problems with the lab instrumentation and obtains service and repairs on all lab equipment and facilities as needed.
• Proficient with all aspects of the laboratory database management system (S·O·S Services Manager). Includes sample checkout, registering the input of sample test results, review of in-progress sample data, the generation of secondary testing and identifying samples that require out-sourcing for testing that are beyond the scope of the S·O·S program.
• Proficient with all laboratory software including Total Chrome, Oil Express 4, Winvisc, and PE Syngistics including operating, maintenance and repair functions
• Participates with supervisor in the development of objectives for the laboratory and the S·O·S program. Carries out established testing objectives in a timely, professional, safe and cost effective manner.
• Maintains accurate records of sample volume, billing information, lab supply inventory, and distribution of oil sample kits.
• Prepares monthly S·O·S kits stock orders for CAT Dealers.
• Demonstrates safe work habits including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), correct disposal of waste and notification of hazardous conditions to the Manager or Safety Representative. Understand and follow lab safety guidelines.
  
  
  

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; and two years laboratory or mechanical experience preferred. Employee must have an intermediate level of experience with computers including Excel, WordPad, and Microsoft Word and should possess knowledge of mechanics and/or chemistry.
