JOB TITLE: Orthodox Service Musician
GOVERNMENT AGENCY & LOCATION: Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland (JBSA-LAK)

POSITION INFORMATION: The Orthodox Service Musician is a part-time position that will perform at one (1) service each week on Sunday at 10:00 am at the Airmen Memorial Chapel on JBSA Lackland. The Orthodox Service Musician shall provide music as specified by the Chaplain in charge. This may include vocal music for the attendees, community singing, and Holy Liturgy at the Liturgical Service to include special Holidays and Feasts and other special services as needed. All music and singing will complement the style and atmosphere of the Orthodox Church service being supported. Any rehearsal or time spent immediately prior to the service or event is considered part of the service.
Qualifications
Possess familiarity with Orthodox liturgical worship.
Minimum of three (3) years chanting or experience.
A degree in music and/or certification by appropriate professional organizations is desired.
A minimum of one year experience as an Orthodox Church music director/lead cantor or two (2) years serving in a worship orthodox choir is desired.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpretation of vocal scores to include liturgical music.
Ability to select and present music in keeping with the type of worship being celebrated in the Orthodox Church.
Ability to sight read and play standard hymns, anthems, and special solo music, and to play an accompanying music instrument with the choir and congregational singing suitable for this worship.
Demonstrate the ability to coordinate and work well in a multi-denominational setting.
Be fully qualified to perform the required services with minimal supervision or direction by the Chapel Staff.
Responsibilities
Participate in rehearsals as directed.
Arrive prior to the beginning of worship services and special services to consult with the priest celebrant to assure that equipment is setup and prepared in a timely manner.
Collaborate musical selections (through the COR) for approval by the Service Chaplain.
Provide arranged, improved, and scored music as appropriate for compatibility with the type of worship service or other functions of the Chaplain’s program at which it was rendered.
Lead the congregation in worship music as required by the Service Chaplain.
Sing/play assigned music from a religious music, ecclesiastical, or suitable type publication resource consistent with the nature of the Orthodox Worship Service.
Recruit and recommend high quality music volunteers from the JBSA community to assist in the conduct and operation of the Chapel Music program.
Return all government owned music scores and equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last serviceMusical provided under the contract. Musicians shall not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws.
