Job Title: Packaging Lead

Location: Bar W Beef, Nephi, UT

Reports To: Plant Manager/Packaging Manager


Job Summary:

The Packaging Lead is responsible for overseeing the packaging operations within the beef slaughterhouse. This role ensures that beef products are packaged efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with quality and safety standards. The Packaging Lead will manage a team of packaging workers, coordinate workflow, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize productivity and product quality.


Key Responsibilities:


Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily packaging operations, ensuring compliance with production schedules and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and manage the workflow of packaging workers to ensure efficient and timely packaging of beef products.
  • Monitor packaging equipment and processes, troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and sanitary regulations are strictly followed to maintain a safe working environment.


Team Supervision:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to packaging team members, ensuring they are adequately trained and performing their tasks effectively.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and coaching to improve team performance.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and high morale.


Quality Control:

  • Ensure all packaged products meet the company's quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Implement and monitor quality control measures to detect and address any deviations from standards.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company quality standards.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives in packaging operations.
  • Implement best practices and lean manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement projects to drive operational excellence.


Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of packaging activities, including production reports, inventory levels, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to management on key performance indicators, production metrics, and any operational issues.


Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to meat packaging.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety, conducting regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in meat processing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging operations, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software relevant to packaging operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.


Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a meat processing environment with exposure to temperature variations, noise, and physical hazards.
  • Requires standing, walking, and the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
