The Packaging Operator is an essential role on the rapidly growing team at Downeast Cider, the #1 craft hard cider brand in the Northeast and #2 hard cider in the country. The packaging team is fully responsible for the operation of our canning line and our kegging station. Our equipment is extremely fast (267 cans per minute!) and running it requires a quick mind and ability to perform repetitive tasks. Sometimes we need to hit a deadline or empty a tank, and we don't leave until we cross the finish line. We look for optimistic team members who choose positivity and humor and crush work, even in difficult situations.

Successful packaging operators frequently take on leadership roles on the packaging team. You will get training and experience on very high tech and state-of-the-art packaging equipment. You will also have access to and exposure with other departments, and often have opportunities for cross-training.

What you’ll do:

Operate canning and kegging equipment in a safe manner according to established procedures

Clean and maintain packaging equipment and workspaces

Enter packaging data through web based forms and maintain data entries on web based spreadsheets

Assist warehouse by operating forklifts to stage raw materials and remove finished product

Who you are:

Ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly

Ability to work in hot, cold, damp, and cramped quarters

Ability to read and speak English

Extreme team mentality as you may be called to assist other teams where needed

Confident in ability to think through complex processes such as tank handling

Able to flex between first, second, and overnight shifts as needed

Bonus points if you are…

Experienced within the food, beverage or manufacturing industry

Have a mechanical background

Don’t check all the boxes? We know there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate, so if this is a role you feel passionate about we encourage you to apply with a one-page cover letter explaining why this post speaks to you. Drop the “to whom it may concern” and give it to us straight - why you?

About Downeast Cider

We aspire to build an enduring company with a world-class brand, known as an extraordinary place to work. It’s been 12 years since our first batches of unfiltered cider were fermented in the dorms of Bates College, Maine, and while we’ve gained 231 new teammates and 1.6 million cases of tasty drinks - with a growing assortment beyond cider - we remain 100% founder-owned. We’re a scrappy team that enjoys the hard work of creating a company because we get to work on fun things with people we like.

We like to hire the way we like our cider, unfiltered. With the understanding that we can learn and grow from each other’s differences, we are proud to hire regardless of gender, race, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, or anything else that makes us who we are.
