The Pentagon Force Protection Agency is a civilian defense agency within the Department of Defense charged with protecting and safeguarding the occupants, visitors, and infrastructure of the Pentagon, Mark Center, Defense Health Headquarters and other delegated Pentagon facilities. Special Operations Units

  • Emergency Response Team: ERT members are highly trained in tactics and special weapons.
  • K-9: The explosive detection K-9 unit is responsible for the detection and deterrence of explosives threats and attacks against the Pentagon and personnel.
  • Evidence & Court Liaison: Assist officers with the processing of arrests, and the training of officers and special agents in DUI/DWI/ Drug detection.
  • Recruiting: This team is responsible for securing a highly qualified and diverse law enforcement workforce.
  • Special Events Unit: A small cell of police officers and special agents who assist in managing various events that occur regularly at the Pentagon such as the 9/11 commemoration, dignitary honor cordons, Army Ten-Miler and the Marine Corps Marathon.
  • High Risk Personnel Driver (Executive Driver): This team is responsible for the transportation and safety of DoD officials.
  • Select Protection Service Missions: If selected during your career it could require additional training and certifications.
  • Field Training Officer: A small cell of police officers who are responsible for mentoring and field training our new hires Police Officer Training Phases
  • One week of in-processing at the Pentagon. In this initial phase, police officer candidates complete the basic administrative paperwork plus they will receive their uniforms and orientation briefings.
  • Three weeks of pre–federal law enforcement training at FLETC in Cheltenham, Md. The training curriculum includes physical training, weapons familiarization and classroom instruction. FLETC is the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, which provides basic police training to all federal law enforcement officers.
  • Sixty days of the Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) at FLETC in Glynco, Ga. The curriculum includes academics, legal issues, physical fitness, firearms training, vehicle operations, and officer response tactics.
  • Thirty-three days of Agency Specific Basic Police Training (ASBT) at FLETC, Cheltenham, Md. Candidates are given PFPA-specific training that will focus on policy and regulations, in addition to advanced firearms and access control.
  • Six weeks of the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP). FTEP is conducted at the Pentagon after officers are sworn in. Officers are assigned to a Field Training Officer (FTO). The FTO provides the final training, evaluation, and integration into the Pentagon Police Division. Salary & Benefits Competitive starting salary: $68,918-$73,502 (Full performance at $126,434).

  • Have at least one year of police experience or a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Anthropology, Community Policing, Computer Engineering, Juvenile Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Corrections, Criminal Law, Criminal Psychology, Cybersecurity, Emergency Management, Ethics in Criminal Justice, Forensic Accounting, Public Administration, Public Policy, Research Methods, Security and Policy Administration, Social Work, System Engineering, Criminology, Sociology, Police Science, Forensic Science and Homeland Security.
  • Possess a valid drivers license and good driving record; have not been convicted of any offense involving domestic violence or felony.
  • Pass all pre-employment background checks.
  • Pass a physical ability test.
  • Pass the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST).
  • Complete a panel interview.
  • Pass urinalysis/ drug screening.
  • Complete a thorough medical assessment.
  • Meet medical standards.
