Physicist

Simulates electron beams for X-ray tubes using advanced simulation tools and an understanding of particle beam physics and optics. Builds and tests prototypes to validate simulations and make design decisions. Works with and develops new technologies to innovate and improve X-ray tube performance. Typically requires an advanced degree.

Key Responsibilities

• Creates particle beam simulations to achieve high-end technical requirements for X-ray tubes, including electron beam optics
• Defines cathode geometry, materials and focusing methods to obtain required beam performance and focal spot size
• Plans and conducts experiments to validate beam simulations in physical prototypes
• Methodically collects and analyzes data from experiments
• Works with engineering team to implement particle beam designs into products
• Documents and reports on results of simulations and testing
• Evaluates new technologies and provides recommendations for use

Experience/Skills/Knowledge

• Degree in scientific field, preferably an advanced degree in physics, optics, or mechanical engineering
• Expert knowledge of electric and magnetic fields, electron optics design, and X-ray tubes
• Experience simulating particle beams using electromagnetic software, preferably Opera
• Knowledge of high vacuum and high voltage technology
• Preferred experience with modern programming techniques

Education and Experience

• Bachelors degree (or equivalent experience)
• 8+ years of related experience or Masters/PhD Degree with 6 years of related experience
