Malwarebytes is looking for…

We are seeking a Product Counsel to support our business initiatives globally. To thrive in this role, you will operate independently in a fast-paced, small, but growing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience advising product and engineering teams on legal issues arising throughout the product development lifecycle, especially those relating to regulatory compliance, marketing, and IP licensing. This role will involve extensive cross-functional work across with distributed teams.  You will also have expertise in the following areas: (1) privacy and data protection issues, (2) licensing and regulatory issues related to consumer security products; and (3) B2C marketing and advertising issues.

What You’ll Do

  • Be the legal go-to for the product, engineering, procurement, support, and marketing teams, advising them on all legal aspects related to Malwarebytes product offerings, including their development, marketing, sale, and compliance with applicable laws (privacy / GDPR / CCPA / CPRA, consumer protection, FCPA & UK Bribery Act, export compliance etc.)
  • Advise about legal issues involving product offerings, help design and implement compliance programs, and provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Uplevel our product launch process and protocols to ensure new product offerings are adequately protected by and compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Uplevel our process for legal review of marketing materials and collaborate with and advise the marketing teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Draft and update form agreements regarding products and services, and negotiate product and security related changes to customer contracts, including those related to privacy and data security.
  • Work with potential vendors to understand data flows to determine privacy and data protection risk.
  • Monitor new and emerging developments in applicable worldwide regulations and laws, and identify potential impacts on current and future product offerings.
  • Improve, scale, and document company processes, as well as manage tools to allow Malwarebytes to scale (CLM, OneTrust, etc.).

Skills You’ll Need To Have

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience at a law firm, in-house, or preferably a combination thereof.
  • Expertise in consumer protection, privacy (CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA etc.), intellectual property, and commercial and licensing matters.
  • Significant experience working in-house and designing, building, and maintaining global compliance programs.
  • Willingness and wherewithal to take on projects involving unfamiliar subject matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to get things done.
  • Growth mindset.
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills with a consistent record of building relationships.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and multi-tasking skills.
  • And yes, a good sense of humor.

Expected salary range for this role is $210-$250k based on experience and location
