With a working title of Research Manager, this position is highly consultative and provides strategic services to fundraisers at all stages of the development cycle, including but not limited to, the identification of new prospects, optimization of portfolios, and assessment of Development Officer productivity. By utilizing sophisticated research and leveraging patient and alumni data, this individual will help proactively build and curate the prospect pipeline. They are also responsible for ensuring that best practices for prospects are communicated and supported throughout the organization—and evolve as new technology or systems are adopted. Becoming a super-user of Davie (the CRM for the UNC Health Foundation) and developing a thorough understanding of how to leverage this platform is essential to this role.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with Prospect Development leadership, develop proactive identification and research efforts for patient and alumni prospects.
  • Support the mechanisms to ensure a robust and sustainable pipeline including active prospects at all giving levels, active prospects in all stages of the development cycle, and the curation and identification of new prospects.
  • Measure the efforts of a robust and sustainable pipeline including evaluating if the appropriate prospects are being managed, if assigned prospects are being engaged, and if Development Officers are moving prospects forward at a reasonable pace.
  • Conduct biographical, wealth, financial and philanthropic research on prospects, analyze and interpret findings, and assign gift capacity ratings as needed.
  • Assist with the development of acquisition and engagement strategies for new and existing donors.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study required.

Professional Experience Requirements

  • Four (4) years of prospect research and management experience required.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements

  • Knowledge of effective fundraising practices, preferably at a large academic healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with Blackbaud software products – CRM preferred.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse constituencies, meet deadlines, be self-motivated, work independently, demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities.
  • Must have a customer service-oriented attitude, and the ability to be a team player with proven relationship and influencing skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues from a variety of internal and external functional areas.
  • Must be a proven strategic and analytical thinker.
  • Must be an expert in Excel.
