The Quantum Opto-mechanics and Quantum Sensing Lab led by Prof. Gurudev Dutt at the University of Pittsburgh (UPitt) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate for projects in table-topexperiments toprobethefoundationsof quantummechanicsand quantumgravity.This is a highly multidisciplinaryproject that combines techniques fromquantumoptics,atomic physics, optical microscopy (confocal, wide-field),and nanofabrication.Thegoalis touseultra- sensitive quantum diamond, levitated in custom-built traps at low temperature and ultra-high vacuum, to prepare and probe macroscopicquantumsuperpositions and measure the motional decoherence.
Whileworkingon Theproject, Thepostdoc Will
★ Applytechniquesin quantumoptics,magneticresonance, and opticalspectroscopy to quantum opto-mechanics of levitated particles.
★ Learnsemiconductorand nanofabricationtechniquesin world-classcleanrooms(UPitt NFCF, NIST, and Argonne National Lab).
★ Collaboratewithpartnersin academia(UPitt,U of Maryland),and nationallabs(NISTand Argonne).
This position is funded by the John F. Templeton and Alfred P. Sloan Foundations, and it is for twoyear(s),renewable upto1time.APhDinPhysics, Engineering, orarelated field isrequired. Experience inoptical spectroscopy/microscopy,cryogenics, UHV,atomicphysics,and/ornano- materialsand nanofabrication is highly recommended. Strong background in programming (Python, C, etc.), CAD design, optical design, and electronics, is very desired. Experience in magnetometry or quantum optics is also helpful.
