The Controller is responsible for managing and carrying out all operational accounting functions and processes across the portfolio of commercial real estate development and holdings. These holdings include approximately 40 companies.

We are seeking a professional that has strong experience in real estate and tax accounting and is ready to lead a small team of 3 accounting team members. The position will report directly to the CFO and is available immediately. This person will lead business operations accounting, participate in sophisticated tax strategy, and manage financing activities and transactions for real estate assets.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primarily responsible for managing and overseeing the efficient and accurate processing of all accounting related functions across the operating companies and portfolio of entities, properties and leases.

Management:

• Oversee the operations of the accounting department of three.
• Management and maintenance of existing corporate software, Yardi for all commercial accounting and bookkeeping.
  
  
  

Tax Compliance and Planning:

• Timely prepare tax workpapers so that returns for over 40 entities can be prepared by external accounting firms.
• Review tax returns for accuracy and meet all due dates.
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings which include property tax listings, sales and use, filings with the Secretary of State, etc.
• Participate in strategic tax planning projects with CFO and third-party accountants.
  
  
  

Accounting and Finance:

• Banking relationships, debt covenants, closing on purchases/sales of properties
• Supervising AR, AP, payroll, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations
• Reviewing financial statements prepared by staff for over 40 entities
  
  
  

Reporting:

• Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements.
• Oversee cash flow management and reporting and prepare reforecasts reporting globally and for each property/entity as necessary.
• Coordination of the annual budgeting process and prepare final annual budget.
• Management and execution of monthly budget variance reporting.
• Provide financial analyses as needed.
  
  
  

Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in real estate industry
• Real estate tax expertise
• Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA) license.
• Experience in commercial real estate industry, specifically retail, office and/or multi-family.
• Proficient in Microsoft suite including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Experience working with Yardi
