Position Title Resident Assistant Fall 2024 If part time, projected hours (per week) Job Description

The Resident Assistant (RA) position, a key student leader within the residence halls of Iowa Western Community College. RAs are community role models and mentors to all residents. It is important to understand the unique nature of working and living within a residence hall as it requires skills and responsibilities such as customer service, roommate mediation, serving on-call, incident documentation, planning and working events and assisting with other projects throughout the school year.

Duties

  • Foster community within the residence halls through interpersonal interactions, social gatherings, and hosting/attending campus programs and events
  • Actively maintain good working relationships with fellow staff including Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs), Director of Residence Life (DRL) and other Iowa Western staff
  • Promote leadership, mentorship and a sense of community pride in collaboration with the RLCs
  • Positively impact residents on a daily basis by focusing on interpersonal relationships and actively strive to spend significant time building community in the residence hall
  • Address resident needs and concerns as they arise with a focus on mediation, mentoring, and solution focused, problem solving skills
  • Complete required Community Development Model in coordination with the RLCs
  • Understand, explain, and enforce Housing Rules and Regulations and Student Code of Conduct policies within the residence halls
  • Maintain a secure residence hall by working the front desk. Front desk duties typically include but are not limited to: answering phone calls and questions, giving directions, enforcing guest policies and building entry policies by monitoring people entering and exiting the building, package and equipment sign out, and reporting facility issues and emergencies to the proper authorities. Eight scholarship hours are required per week at the front desk
  • Handle student information with confidentiality and follow all FERPA guidelines
  • Assist with move in, move out, and hall closing tasks at the beginning, breaks, and end of each semester
  • Participate in an on-call rotation including; walking the facility, socially interacting with students, and addressing any policy issues, facility issues, or emergencies that arise
  • Perform other duties as assigned by RLC to assist in maintaining the residence halls and building relationships with students. These may include: cleaning, advertising for events, student meetings, on campus errands, and helping with various projects.

Campus Location Council Bluffs Required Qualifications

RAs are expected to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a minimum of 2.5 GPA both cumulatively and per semester. All RAs must be in good standing with Iowa Western Community College's conduct processes. Job offers contingent upon the results of a background check.

  • Walking for periods of time.

Pay Rate Scholarship that covers an IWCC Residence Life room, and unlimited meal plan for the IWCC Cafeteria. $11.00 per Hour for non-scholarship duties. Equal Opportunity/Non-Discrimination Statement
