The Risk Manager leads the charge in safeguarding our County's assets and employees. Summary of Job Duties:

  • Leadership and Supervision. Supervises staff responsible for Risk Management, Safety, Security, and Workers' Compensation in performance of duties, including conducting performance evaluations, approving time off, assigning and monitoring work, staff training and development, etc.
  • Operational Management. Prepares, recommends, monitors, and administers the division budget. Recommends applicable policy, continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, identifies opportunities and implements programs for improvement. Oversees selection and maintenance of applicable software systems. Utilizes software to report on and maintain Risk Management activities. Serves on applicable committees. Delivers relevant communication with internal and external partners at all levels timely, with tact and effectiveness.
  • Oversees Risk Analysis & Insurance. Manages County Property, Casualty, and Liability Coverage. Partners with insurance brokers, County Prosecutor, Ohio BWC, and other stakeholders to ensure that all forms of risk are appropriately addressed. Inspects County assets to conduct risk analysis and determine if exposed assets of the County are at risk of loss; evaluates and assesses probability and severity of potential losses and measures financial impact of risk on County. Negotiates and settles insurance claims, recommends liability claim settlements to the Board of County Commissioners; manages claims submission and authorizes payments.
  • Oversees Safety Management Programs. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other relevant regulations. Oversees countywide evacuation plans, accident prevention/control and investigations, including Workers' Compensation related accidents/claims. Maintains overall responsibility for the development of safety training. Serves as a primary contact for workplace violence situations and oversees implementation response in concert with other County Leaders. Reviews and approves safety audits performed by staff.
  • Oversees Security Programs for County Buildings. Maintains expert knowledge of county security systems. Manages staff responsible for administering county camera system, county building access, and after-hours security contracts. Reviews and approves security audits conducted by subordinate staff.
  • Personal and Professional Development: Researches and keeps appropriate staff up-to-date on public liability issues and trends; researches and reviews new rules as published in trade journals; prepares, presents and monitors safety programs and activities; provides liaison and consultation to County training manager in developing and implementing employee safety awareness, education, and training programs to reduce and eliminate risk and liability of county and its employees.
  • Must be able to travel to various work locations daily, and be available 24/7 to respond to emergency safety or security issues.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in risk management, insurance, business administration, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience.
  • Or, equivalent combination of training and experience should exhibit a thorough comprehension of risk management, along with demonstrated leadership or supervision of staff in the same or similar field of work.
  • Valid driver’s license issued by the state of residency.


Preferred Qualifications

One or more of the following designations: ARM - Associate in Risk Management, ARMP - Associate Risk Management Professional, CRM - Certified Risk Manager, CPCU - Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter

  • 40 Hour Work Week, generally between core hours of 7:30-5:30
