This is a full-time, benefited position regularly scheduled to work a 4-day, 36 hour schedule (typically Monday - Thursday).

The City of Alameda is looking to fill two (2) full time Engineer position at the Senior level, one within Land Development and second within Capital Project Delivery.


The Position

Land Development – Alameda is in the midst of a historic boom in land development with the transformation of Alameda Point from a former Naval Base to a thriving community and redevelopment of much of the northern waterfront. The position will work closely with the Planning, Building, and Transportation Department and the Base Reuse and Economic Development Department reviewing development applications and facilitating the development process while ensuring City policies and standards are achieved. 


Capital Project Delivery- This position helps implement the City’s overarching policies, goals and actions as listed in the Mobility Element of the General Plan (2021), the Vision Zero Action Plan (2021), the Active Transportation Plan (2022), and the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan (2019). Examples of projects underway or under consideration in Alameda in 2024 include, but are not limited to:

  • Central Ave Safety Improvements: Construction of a 1.7-mile complete street that reduces vehicle lanes from four to three, and includes two-way separated bikeway, three roundabouts, and many intersection safety features;
  • Clement Ave / Tilden Way Safety Project: Construction of a new roundabout to replace the current signalized intersection;
  • Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Improvements: Development and implementation of multi-modal safety and mobility improvements for the three-mile corridor, which connects neighborhoods across Alameda and serves multiple destinations including schools, commercial districts and parks;
  • Active Transportation Infrastructure: Development of a robust network of low-stress bicycle facilities and trail improvements throughout Alameda;
  • Climate Adaptation and Resiliency: Projects in development include protection of the northern shoreline near the Webster/Posey Tubes, Veterans Court, Bay Farm Island, and Doolittle Drive.

  • Four day, 36 hour work week (typically Monday through Thursday)
  • Salary: 2.5% base salary increase effective July 14, 2024. (Posted salary reflects this increase).
  • CalPERS Retirement: Classic Members: 2% at 55 formula, 8.868% contribution; New Members 2% @ 62 formula, 8.75% contribution.
  • Medical: The City contracts with CalPERS to provide comprehensive health coverage to employees. Multiple HMO and PPO plans available, with a generous City contribution towards medical premiums.
  • Dental: Comprehensive dental coverage provided to employees and their eligible dependents.
  • Vacation: Starting with 75 hours annually and increasing with years of service.
  • Management Incentive Leave: 27 hours of management leave per fiscal year. 
  • Holidays: 11 City Holidays
  • Floating Holidays: MCEA - 3.5 days
  • Sick Leave: 90 hours annually; unused sick leave is converted to service credit at retirement
  • Deferred Compensation: Up to 1% 457(b) matching City contribution after 1 year of continuous service.
