The role

SoFi is seeking an energetic, detailed oriented, self-motivated Issue Governance Senior Manager to join our Enterprise Risk Management team. This role will support SoFi Technologies Issue Governance Framework as part of the Enterprise Risk Management 2nd Line of Defense. This leadership role will support the ongoing development and implementation of the ERM Issue Governance program including the policies, standards and tools needed to ensure adherence to the program and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience leading and implementing 2LOD Issue Management Governance Programs, knowledge of 2LOD risk management, governance, and compliance, and will be an agile learner, think strategically, and possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

What you’ll do:


  • Own the Issue Management program and ongoing maturation, including the continued development of policies, standards, and 2LOD oversight activities.
  • Establish program adherence requirements and monitoring to ensure the program is executed within policy and standards and in compliance with regulatory expectations and industry standards.
  • Define credible challenge expectations to ensure consistent and robust 2LOD review and challenge of issue identification, documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans that fully address the root cause, impact and controls.
  • Analyze issue data to identify thematic issues and emerging trends
  • Develop quality assessment processes to measure and monitor quality of program execution and performance.
  • Develop program metrics to monitor program performance and adherence to Issue Management requirements.
  • Apply strategic thinking to ensure continuous improvement of the Issue Management program. This includes analysis of industry dynamics, strategic risk and emerging trends
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate levels of accountability, transparency, and alignment with the ERM framework and Issue Management program requirements.
  • Support the preparation of regular and ad-hoc risk reports for ERM governance, boards, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Provide input for the development of Issue Management tools and technology solutions.
  • Advance the company’s Issue Management risk culture and program knowledge through training, education and communication
  • Manage, develop and lead Issue Governance team
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What you’ll need:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 12+ years of experience in second line of defense enterprise risk and governance roles;
  • Experience in banking and/or fintech industry, including regulatory experience;
  • Knowledge of banking products, processes and regulatory requirements;
  • Experience leading, implementing and enhancing an Issue Governance program, executing oversight activities including but not limited to the development and implementation of program supporting processes, documentation and SLAs.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; capable of drafting strong documentation and presentations, and interacting positively with management and colleagues;
  • Strong expertise across coaching, performance management, and team member development
  • Strong working knowledge of Google and Microsoft products
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills;
  • Exercise judgment without management involvement, comfortably navigating change and solving new problems
  • Self-motivated;
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change; comfortable dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty;
  • Excellent critical and creative thinking, decision-making and innovative problem-solving skills;
  • Team Player


Nice to have:


  • Internal Audit and/or Compliance experience
  • Experience with Issue Management tools and technologies
  • Multi-lingual (Spanish)

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
