The Sheppard Pratt School - Severn River Middle School is a Type II School program developed to assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (Asperger's Syndrome or Pervasive Developmental Disorders) transition to a less restrictive setting. The 10 month program is a collaborative effort between Sheppard Pratt School and the Anne Arundel County Public School System (AACPS).
Candidates interested in this position have the option to work as a 10-month employee, with the possibility of also working the ESY or coming on as a 12-month employee and working the ESY and/or floating to other Forbush School programs during the summer months as needed.**
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lesson plans and modify instruction to meet the individual needs of students.
Provide behavioral management.
Monitor, evaluate and report on students' progress.
Attend and participate in meetings.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and at least 3 months of related teaching experience (i.e. student teaching, internships, etc.).
Must have or be eligible for a conditional, standard professional or advanced certification with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) at time of appointment. Candidates with a conditional certification must obtain standard professional or advanced certification within two to four years of starting in teaching role, as determined by MSDE evaluation of the individual's credentials. Must maintain MSDE certification requirements throughout tenure in position.
Current MSDE certification and/or experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder and emotional disabilities strongly preferred.
