ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Surveyor 3 within the Office of Real Estate and Land Management (REALM), headquartered at Fountain Square, assigned to Franklin County. What you will do…

  • Independently oversees and manages complex survey projects and acts as lead worker over activities of survey crew (i.e., survey technicians and/or surveyors) while conducting property surveys of state-owned lands and lands being acquired by the state across the entire State of Ohio, from Lake Erie to the Ohio River
  • Position provides a mix of both field and office work
  • Operates and maintains survey instruments (e.g., GNSS Receiver, Total Station, Data Collector, Digital Level, computer, and software): uses departmental software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Map, and Raster Design, Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Center, Microsoft Office to make necessary calculations to process survey data such as GNSS processing, traverse adjustments and boundary calculations
  • Research courthouse records (e.g., deeds, leases, subdivision plats, surveys) or records found in other government offices, libraries, utility companies, the History Connection, or private surveying firms
  • Starting hourly pay of $33.63/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 7.5 years of service, with an end salary of $49.37/hr.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires travel & overnight stays; exposed to inclement weather, traffic, loud noise, rough terrain, ditches with water & sewage, poisonous plants & insects; may work flexible hours; may work in shallow water/boat.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT: Renewal of registration as professional surveyor pursuant to section 4733.15 of revised code.

  • Or Licensure: Current registration as professional surveyor pursuant to section 4733.02 of Ohio Revised Code; valid driver's license. & Experience: 12 mos. exp. as Surveyor 2, 85562.
