Job Overview
The Teacher Director Head Dance (High School) will plan and implement an instructional dance program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels in collaboration with the Assistant Dance Director. The incumbent will manage student behaviors, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify/control instructional activities as required. Travel as well as prolonged or irregular work hours are required.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Coordinate the planning and implementation of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate type and level of materials in collaboration with the Assistant Dance Director
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
Assess student abilities and achievement as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
Assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook, Student Code of Conduct and Extracurricular Handbook
Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
Communicate with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress
Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is beneficial, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition
Travel to feeder middle schools to teach MS Dance as needed
Program Management
Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for all extracurricular activities
Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the co-curricular and extra-curricular programs including UIL, TDEA and FBISD policies
Participate in all UIL, TDEA, and FBISD sponsored events encouraging student participation in all competitions/events related to the campus dance program
Conduct practices outside the academic school day to provide adequate preparation for performances in compliance with UIL and FBISD rules and regulations and established guidelines
Coordinate the planning and implementation of a pre-season dance team activities in compliance with established guidelines in conjunction with the Assistant Dance Director
Develop, implement, and monitor in conjunction with the Assistant Dance Director a recruitment, audition and placement program/schedule for all potential students, including officers and assign students to an appropriate class/team based on audition/placement criteriasubmitting class rosters to the principal or principal’s designee prior to the specified campus deadline
Comply with all established policies and procedures related to the dance program submitting all required forms, fees, and electronic documents by the specified deadlines
Maintain a current inventory of all fine arts equipment, instructional materials, and uniforms in the specified materials management system and coordinate the service and repair of school-owned equipment
Professional Responsibilities
Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators)
Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the dance program (UIL, TDEA and FBISD policies all apply)
Participate in all appropriate UIL, TDEA and FBISD sponsored events; encourage student participation in all competitions/events related to the instructional dance program
Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area
Participate in in-service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Assistant Director of Fine Arts

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Dance, Dance Education, or related field
Master's Degree preferred
Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment
Minimum of 3 years of Full-Time Teaching experience preferred
Effective oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use social media effectively
Demonstrated proficiency of proper dance technique in a variety of forms
Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents
Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern
Ability to market the instructional program
