The TMC Innovation (TMCi) Biodesign Program allows individuals to embark on an entrepreneurial journey with the task of pioneering a medical device startup. This full-time, paid program is tailored for entrepreneurs determined to tackle the most pressing unmet needs in healthcare. Mentored by the TMC Innovation team and a network of experts, Biodesign Founders undergo a proven innovation process that nurtures their ideas into tangible medical device solutions.

  • The Center for Device Innovation (CDI) @ TMC a 26,000 sqft maker space that brings engineers, physicians, and designers together to work side-by-side on breakthrough medical devices. Founders have access to a state-of-the-art machine shop, wet lab, electronics & material characterization lab, and an array of 3D printing capabilities.

Job Overview:

The Biodesign Program for healthcare providers is an intensive, one-year program designed to empower medical professionals with the knowledge and experience to change the landscape of medical device technologies. As a Biodesign Founder-in-Residence, you will play a pivotal role in identifying critical healthcare challenges, driving the ideation of groundbreaking devices, and leading the design and development of medical technologies with the potential to positively transform the lives of millions worldwide.


Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Insights: Bring your in-depth medical knowledge and expertise to the table, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify unmet medical needs and contribute valuable clinical insights throughout the device development process.
  • Ideation and Conceptualization: Work with co-founders to brainstorm and develop innovative medical device concepts that address critical healthcare challenges and improve patient outcomes.
  • Validation and Testing: Participate in the design and implementation of rigorous testing and validation protocols to assess the safety, efficacy, and usability of medical devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Gain an understanding of medical device regulations, such as FDA guidelines and ISO standards, and contribute to preparing the necessary compliance documentation.
  • Human-Centered Design: Advocate for human-centered design principles, considering the end-users (clinicians and patients) throughout the device development process to create user-friendly and impactful medical solutions.
  • Clinical Evaluation: Assist in conducting clinical evaluations and studies to gather data on the performance and efficacy of medical devices in real-world scenarios.

Requirements:
