Job Summary

The Underwriter Associate evaluates of health risk and establishment of profitable and competitive rating levels to ensure acquisition and retention of business, while mitigating risk.

Requirements

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Math, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Health Administration, Informatics, Health Information or related field. In lieu of degree, five (5) years' non-clerical healthcare industry experience will be considered.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Arkansas state Health/Life insurance license required within 6 months of date of hire.

Experience

Training through industry courses and seminars such as HIAA, FLMI, CHC, CEBS etc. preferred.

Knowledge of medical risks, conditions, treatments, pharmacology, and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

Fields inquiries from sales staff, agents, and brokers for new and renewal business and other related business issues., Maintains appropriate records for monitoring the effectiveness of underwriting practices and procedures for review and audit by regulatory authorities., Maintains strict compliance with Federal and State regulations for group insurance with respect to rating, risk assessment, medical underwriting and portability., Performs other duties as assigned., Prepares rates using the rating and actuarial systems, for new business and renewal activity and consistently apply all underwriting guidelines, practices and procedures.

Certifications

Arkansas Insurance License Life & Health - Arkansas Insurance Department, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) - Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Certified Health Consultant (CHC) - American Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) - Life Office Management Association (LOMA), Health Insurance Associate (HIA) - American Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)

Security Requirements

This position is identified as level three (3). This position must ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual on whom information is maintained. The integrity of information must be maintained as outlined in the company Administrative Manual.
