Utilities Specialist

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations Services (DOS), the Utilities Specialist (US) will use the designated CMMS programs to record, monitor and analyze utilities (electricity, gas, water and trash) use/consumption in the school district. The US will prepare and present utilities data to the DOS on a monthly basis or more often as required. The US is responsible for working with accounts payable to ensure all utilities are paid in a timely manner. Basic areas of responsibility include administration and record-keeping, accountability, reporting, and program implementation related to the district’s utilities use and the timely payment of all utility bills. The candidate must have an independent work ethic, good judgment capabilities, and have the ability to maintain positive public relations. The candidate must be computer literate, and demonstrate an ability to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals. The candidate must be familiar with SAP and CMMS programs.

  • This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.**

Essential Duties

  • Maintains all utility records, bills and other related utility data.
  • Works with Accounts Payable to ensure all utilities are paid in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the district is on a proper utility rate schedule and is receiving correct billing.
  • Reports regularly as to the status of the district’s energy/water and trash consumption to the DOS.
  • Provides regular communication to the DOS, Director of Maintenance, Director of HVAC and with Facilities Coordinators (FC) as to the status of energy consumption at each site.
  • Prepare energy audits for all district facilities and develop procedures for efficient utilization of energy sources
  • Assist with the design and maintenance of the programming for computerized energy management systems to ensure efficiency. Update programs as necessary.
  • Liaisons with ONG, OG&E, city utilities and third party suppliers to ensure cost are correct and rebates are received
  • Ensure district participation in any rebate program offered.
  • Report to the FC’s any safety hazards observed.
  • Conduct “walk-through” audits, during irregular hours, of district’s facilities to ensure operating efficiency and an optimum educational environment.
  • Supports the FC's evaluating campuses to enhance energy conservation
  • Monitor state and national energy policy trends.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities Required)

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel), particularly Excel.
  • Experience with SAP and SchoolDude Energy Direct
  • Strong communication skills
  • Independent work ethic
  • Ability to maintain favorable public relations
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical data and communicate that to non-technical individuals.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities Preferred)

  • Prior work experience with SAP, SchoolDude and Utility billing.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Working in confined spaces is sometimes required.
  • Must be able to push, pull or lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to read various forms of written materials and must be able to recognize different signs and symbols.
