GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for being a visual storyteller and works as a member of the Communications team to develop, create, and share video content highlighting the various initiatives of Springfield Public Schools.

Essential Job Functions

  • Works in collaboration to produce Springfield Public Schools video content in support of districtwide marketing, inter-departmental promotional opportunities and compelling personal profiles of staff and students highlighting the district’s vision and purpose.
  • Develops concepts, writes scripts and other messaging, prepares interview questions and spokesperson, schedules interview logistics and serves as an onsite district liaison during production.
  • Captures images, sounds with a DSLR camera and/or other recording equipment, and performs editing of the resulting footage, which may include the visual design of a production, creating engaging videos.
  • Collaborates with district and department leadership from across Springfield Public Schools to develop, create and provide high quality and effective training and marketing videos providing a common message and cohesive visual images.
  • Collaborates with district and department leadership from across Springfield Public Schools to develop, create and provide high quality and effective courses and educational programming, products and presentations supporting high quality instruction.
  • Participates in meetings, processes, and professional learning implementing and maintaining programs and services, which achieve the district’s strategic plan.
  • Works with Supervisor to identify, evaluate, and respond to video needs in order to highlight innovation and best practices for the district.
  • Collaborates with Supervisor, the Communications team and other departments to develop high quality graphics and images for use in promotion of the district’s brand and messaging.
  • Adapts video content for a variety of platforms, as appropriate, including for YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Supports the district’s virtual programming needs as requested by the supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Qualifications And Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Electronic Arts or an area related to technology or video production is preferred.
  • Successful experience in visual storytelling, video production, web design/maintenance, graphic design and strong writing skills is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses And Other Special Requirements

  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include best practices for visual storytelling, web and graphic design, and electronic arts theory.
  • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment using technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements; using DSLR cameras and a variety of lenses for video and photo needs.
  • Skill based competencies also include using pertinent software applications and video editing software including Final Cut Pro, Final Cut X or other editing software like Adobe Photoshop, web design/maintenance; graphic design, planning and managing projects, producing both video and graphic media and learning objects for the purpose of instruction.
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment.
  • Ability to be flexible when working with others in a wide variety of circumstances, analyze data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using a variety of processes.
  • Ability to problem-solve when identifying issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, setting high expectations for self and others.
  • Ability to set, monitor and communicate progress toward goals, utilizing and offering effective feedback for continuous improvement.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
