The NYC Public School’s Office of School Performance (OSP) seeks a full-time Web Developer to work with the OSP team to improve the
scalability, accuracy, and automation of technical aspects of local accountability reporting systems (such as the NYC Public School
Performance Dashboard and School Quality Reports); student performance on state assessments (e.g., Regents examinations for math,
science, English language, and arts); and academic planning tools (e.g., Insight). This role is imperative to ensure schools and NYC Public
School leadership have the necessary data to make decisions about student support. Reporting directly to the Product Development
Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and supporting all web applications and tools using expertise in
JavaScript, Java, SQL, HTML, CSS, ReactJS, AngularJS, NodeJS, and GitHub.
The role will be essential in interpreting data from existing DOE systems such as ATS, Stars, and SESIS and developing business rules for
the systems and tools mentioned above. The resource will collaborate on the development, testing, and final rollout of field-facing
products and the implementation of updates and revisions of those products based on feedback from teachers and schools. These
products are critical to understanding how learning is experienced by all students as well as students in special populations such as
Students with Disabilities, Multilingual Learners, and Students in Temporary Housing, and inform teachers and schools on student
engagement, learning, and progress. The role will concurrently lead the development of NYC Public School’s local accountability web
applications (e.g., NYC Public School Performance Dashboard), academic programming tools (e.g., Insight), and operationalize reporting
on state assessments, citywide surveys, and other NYC Public School initiatives. The Web Developer will also ensure continuous
improvement and quality control of all School Quality Report products by developing and reviewing business rules, training software
developers, and testing the performance and accuracy of web applications.

- 2+ years of experience in JavaScript, Python, PHP and other server-side languages
- 2+ years of experience in HTML5 and CSS
- 2+ years of experience with RESTful API development and integration
- 2+ years of working knowledge of OpenAPI and Swagger
- 2+ years of experience developing and deploying web sites and applications
- 2+ years of experience using and maintaining Github repositories
- 2+ years of experience using the latest web technologies
- 2+ years of experience with Mobile technology
- 2+ years of experience with software modeling tools such as Papyrus and Enterprise Architect
- 2+ years of experience using Atlassian Jira
- Familiarity with IMS standards or other standards-based APIs
- A background in the provision of technical support or customer service
- Experience with technical writing
- Comfort presenting technical information to a non-technical audience
- Enjoys helping others solve technical problems
- A quick learner; self-directed; excellent problem-solving skills
- Deep interest in public education and its role in advancing equity; experience or enrollment in a large urban school
- Ability to quickly and efficiently switch focus among multiple concurrent tasks
- Passion for learning

Additional Responsibilities Include The Following
- Develop and support web applications following industry standards and best practices
- Accurately interpret requirement specifications and carry out coding tasks promptly
- Define the logic and flow of an application based on the design specifications
- Thoroughly test all aspects of development to ensure that the products provided are bug-free
- Application deployment to production and user support
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Create interactive web user interfaces in JavaScript
- Develop and deploy public- and school-facing websites in code that is cross-browser and cross-platform friendly
- Provide technical advice and make recommendations to other team members
- Support ongoing development and drive new development for related underlying projects
- Support all development-related aspects including:
- Working with teams of developers and database managers to build scalable, secure, and dynamic web tools for
programming, and team process management
- Partnering with DIIT, OPE teams, and others to create long-term value, manage solution architecture, and
- Ensuring the site stability and managing the technical execution of enhancements to support Department’s goal
- Develop, deploy, and support new interactive web tools. This includes:
- Applying best practices to ensure that languages such as JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, and Angular are being
- Developing and managing protocols and processes across teams of developers to manage code deployment,
- Researching, recommending, and implementing new solution architecture where needed
