The two keys to effective communication
- In the last lesson, we learned that a good writer usually has five key aspirations, namely to ensure that their writing is comprehensible, beautiful, effective, engaging, and authentic. Hopefully, you now also made those five aspirations a part of your own writing mindset. Now, in this lecture, I want to give you another piece of mindset advice. And I want to suggest that you begin to look at anything you are writing, as having two key components, content and tone. I'll try to explain the difference with a story. Someone I knew once told me they found it really hard to write work emails. "Why," I asked. "I don't know, I just get stuck," the person said. "I never know what to write." Now, when we delve deeper into it, I realized that writing even a simple work email to colleagues can be quite hard for some people.
