- If I was forced to choose only two concepts to focus on for successful, safe use of generative AI in healthcare, they would be data privacy and human oversight of AI systems. Let's break each of these down. Starting with security and privacy. This one's pretty obvious and it still causes challenges for health systems. There are now more than two data breaches of 500 patients or more every single day, and healthcare systems must do everything in their power to assess how data is collected, stored and protected. But now, with the use of generative AI, the potential for data breach may be higher, especially if non-secure commercial tools are used by healthcare workers. And first of all, I want to be very clear. Identifiable patient data should never be entered into open, commercially available models on the internet, ever.
