- [Instructor] The term Android is commonly used to refer to the operating system. And that's accurate, but it's also incomplete. Android is a complete software platform. It includes the operating system which is based on Linux, but it's specifically designed to be run on mobile devices, including cell phones and tablets. In addition to the operating system, the Android platform includes an application framework that lets you create and deploy your own custom apps that work on Android phones and tablets and also on computers running the Chrome OS operating system, sometimes known as Chromebooks. There's also support for other kinds of devices. The core framework is for the mobile devices, the phones, tablets, and so on, but there are other supported form factors.
