- Now let's move into the job interview. The job interview is often the number one challenge autistic people have when searching for a job because it's dependent on social norms and communication. We talked earlier about social norms and how they can impact others, and interviews are times when differences in communication can be heightened, such as lack of making eye contact, perhaps hearing the question differently as a result of auditory processing, it may even be talking too much or not quite answering the question completely. It's an act that takes a lot of energy from the interviewee and usually interferes with the interview itself from finding a good person-job fit. This process also may not align with an autistic person's communication style. They may be seen as rude, disinterested, and unengaged.
