- As we explore the benefits of cloud computing, we really need to look at it from two perspectives. First of all, we can think about what's reduced and secondly, we can think about what's increased. So we're going to start with three things that are reduced when we do cloud computing. And the first one is reduced hardware costs. Now think about this. If I want to build a web application and I'm doing it all on-premises, all in my data center, and I know I need a web server, I need a database server, I need an application server. So let's just take those three tiers. Then right there, I have three different servers or three virtual machines running on one very powerful server.
