- As I've said previously, understanding the history of any technology can help you better understand that specific technology. So I want to take some time now to talk a little bit about the history of Amazon Web Services or AWS. Now, interestingly, it all started out internal to the organization at Amazon. Yes, the very famous amazon.com that started out selling books and now sells just about everything under the sun. They realized they had something, they had built custom in-house solutions that served their own needs and they realized that maybe other people could benefit from this as well. And they had an internal discussion trying to determine whether this is something the world needs or not.
