- Multilateral organizations and government agencies can be attractive places to do social impact work because they offer the ability to influence and support large amounts of money and people, but they're also places shaped by politics and rooted in collaboration, compromise and bureaucracy. Examples of multilaterals include the United Nations and its 42 programs and entities and agencies, like UNESCO, World Health Organization, World Food Programme, UNICEF, and the United Nations Development Program, UNDP; as well as other large international institutions, like the World Bank and the Red Cross. Many of these institutions are governed by member states. Different countries wield varying amounts of power and influence over programs and investments, often depending on how much funding they bring.
