- There are four types of people you need in your network. Number one, headhunters and corporate recruiters. A corporate recruiter is someone who fills roles directly with their employers. They can help you meet other people inside the company so they can be a useful contact. But keep in mind that they don't make the final hiring decision. A headhunter is someone who works at a recruitment firm and recruits for multiple clients as a third party. Having a relationship with a headhunter who specializes in your target industry or function, for example, a headhunter who exclusively hires for marketing roles or banking, can be a game changer because they would often recruit for multiple roles with different employers, all of which would be a good fit for you.
