- You may have heard it said, "Your network is your net worth." That's because the more relationships you have in the organization, the more opportunities, projects and positions you'll gain access to. Having a strong diverse network is essential to career growth but many people get uncomfortable with the word not working. Let's think about why. For some, going up to a stranger and asking for their name and contact information is the height of terror. They worry about being judged or seeming awkward. Others have no trouble initiating a conversation but may feel it's manipulative to start a relationship for the sole purpose of gaining something.
