- The human brain defaults to saving energy. Creating mental models, which are ideas of how the world works, is one way to achieves its goal. Cognitive biases are another tool people's mind make to make quick assessment. Cognitive biases are mental shortcuts. After the lesson, you'll be able to recognize several cognitive biases that impact your customer understanding of your product and website design. First, the salience bias is when people pay attention to something that appears to be especially remarkable while ignoring the rest. For example, a brightly color button will appear more important than a gray one. So to capitalize on how your customers are using the salient shortcut, consider how your design uses color. Is it being used to emphasize the most important thing on the product or webpage?
