- To strengthen your presence, you need action patterns that are authentic for you and inspire confidence in others. Here is a fantastic example. You can see it for yourself because it's on video. It's from the first televised presidential debate in history between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon. It was a unique natural experiment because millions of people didn't watch the debate on television with video. They listened on the radio, audio only. Television watchers judged Kennedy as the winner. But radio listeners, who couldn't see the candidates' actions, thought Nixon won. You can see clear signs of difference, even in the opening seconds of the debate, when the moderator is introducing each candidate. Before Kennedy or Nixon even says a word, their actions lead to very different impressions.
