- During the ideation process, your intention is to open up people's creative thinking as much as possible. You want them to come up with potentially wild ideas that you can later tame somewhat as you turn them into scenarios and then interfaces. Unfortunately, most software tools aren't very good at enabling creativity. In fact, most actively get in the way. Most designers I know revert to using paper when they're trying to come up with new ideas. Only going digital when they have the basics thought through. So I really suggest that you stick to using paper for the ideation exercises in the design thinking process. If everyone uses thick pens on white paper, you'll easily be able to take photos with a mobile phone or even a webcam and then pull those photos into your digital whiteboard.
