What are personas?
- [Instructor] Once the initial research phase is complete, the data collected is used to answer a question I always ask: Who are these guys? If the researchers have interviewed a few dozen people, trying to meet the needs of each one would be a Herculean task. If you look at that research and the data points uncovered, you will encounter data points that generally appear throughout and are common to certain segments. To present that data, a common best practice is to use what is called a persona. And I want to talk about their importance. A persona is a meta user whose goals and characteristics represent the cluster of users identified during the research phase. This usually takes the form of a one- or two-page document, which usually includes behavior patterns, goals, skills, attitudes, and other information, as well as a few fictional details to give the team a more realistic picture of who will use the product they…
