From the course: How to Become a Project Management Entrepreneur

Project management is industry independent

- Project management is a discipline that you can apply to projects within any industry, such as aerospace, energy, transportation, healthcare, IT and construction. For example, a healthcare company might launch a project to streamline their services, whereas a construction company might have a project to renovate an old building. And we know most companies are bound to have IT projects in the works. Because project management is industry independent, you're able to choose the direction that you want to take your career as a project management entrepreneur. Take something you're passionate about, whether it's solar energy or even filmmaking, and you can become a project management entrepreneur in that field. Another advantage of industry independence is that you don't have to tie your career to only one industry. Companies might desire project managers with industry experience, however, as your project management expertise grows, industry knowledge might not matter as much. If you can engage in different types of projects that will challenge you, this, in turn, increases your focus on what you're passionate about and what you want to do. This flexibility enables you to design your career as a project management entrepreneur whether you decide to focus on an industry, a particular type of project, a project management role or other aspects of project management.
