Choose your communication channel
- For every message we communicate, there's a channel we send it through. So whether a text, email or video call, it's important to think through, which is best for your message. Chats or text messages are informal and fast. They work well when having fast moving conversations that are informal and possibly temporary. They can be a good way to get a quick answer to a time sensitive question. Email works better when we want to share something more structured or formal. For example, to share detailed information or to make an announcement we want people to be able to refer back to. It also works well when we need an answer later, not now. A video call is better when we're dealing with something more nuanced. For example, we're trying to deal with a performance issue on our team. Or maybe we want to bring remote people together, face to face. Or have a visual presentation for everyone's reference. The idea here, is that we can get immediate live answers to questions and hold a more expressive conversation. Choose your channel, with care.
