- If anyone my age was asked to identify the most creative person they know when it comes to repurposing objects, many of us would point to a grandmother or a grandfather. In the not so distant past, there was no small amount of pride attached to the ability to make things last and to tinker with pieces of one thing to fix another thing. Humans in fact, have historically been as creative with reusing objects for other purposes as we have been with just about anything else. It was only when the era of disposability emerged in the 1950s that we lost our inherent creativity towards innovative reuse because we became so enamored with shiny new and often cheap products. And what a mess this infatuation has created. Approximately 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled. The rest is discarded in ways that wreaks havoc on our environment.
