- The biggest fear of a speaker is a nonresponsive audience. I know because I have been there. Early on in my speaking career, I have faced a zombie audience who would just not respond to my attempts of engagement. Today, you will learn how to engage with your audience and have them hooked onto your talk from start to end. First and foremost, be relatable and vulnerable. Many speakers make the mistake of preaching from their ivory tower of subject matter expertise and knowledge instead of relating to their audience's pain points and demonstrating empathy and vulnerability. Once your audience connects with the human in you, I promise you that they will follow the leader in you when you make the call to adventure. Next, ask questions. Most speakers make the mistake of asking questions to their audiences which demand responses very early on in their talk, perhaps as an opening strategy.
